climate scare | Implementation | crisis opportunity

Interview with author Frank Schätzing: Master plan against climate anxiety

We know what needs to be done, says bestselling author Frank Schätzing in an interview with WDR - now it's a matter of clearing the "implementation backlog" in the fight against climate change.

WDR: Fear of climate change – does that paralyze or help?

Frank Schätzing: Fear is a natural process that has helped us in our evolution - but too much fear is counterproductive and paralyzing. I think we need more opportunity- and opportunity-based communication and less fear-based communication.

WDR: So, how are you?

darling: It's not that we're stuck in ideas, it's not that we don't know what we're doing. We have an implementation backlog. We have to dissolve it now, which means we have to break through these absurd approval procedures, this excess of bureaucracy, which has led to the standstill being administered in Germany for years...

"Let them drive a Porsche": Investigation into fake FDP posters

An alleged election poster criticizes the attitude of Federal Finance Minister Lindner (FDP) in the relief debate. Investigations were therefore started in Düsseldorf.

This criticism takes a poster to the extreme, which is causing discussions in online networks. On the poster, which looks like the FDP posters from the federal election campaign, Lindner is asked these words:

#9EuroTicket: No money for public transport? Let them drive a Porsche.

"Coal or nuclear power" - a German ghost debate

Not even the nuclear power plant operators want longer running times. Money? Then it's better to go straight for the complete changeover. A comment.

"We have to talk at least about an extension of the service life of the three German nuclear power plants that will run until the end of the year," say parts of the Greens and the SPD. The FDP, CDU/CSU and, of course, the AfD are basically calling for longer operating times, even for restarting nuclear power plants that have already been shut down...

On August 21, block 2 was in annual revision. The block-common reserve grid feed-in was switched off for maintenance work. To compensate, the emergency diesel generator of Unit 1, which was running at full load, was switched on when idling. After the reserve network was re-established, it was noticed that this diesel would not have fulfilled its emergency power function due to a fault. According to the HSK authority, there would theoretically still have been a cross-connection to the emergency diesel of the shut down unit 2, but this diesel was also being maintained. If there had been a flood like the one just twelve days before, the hydroelectric power station would not have been available with enough emergency power either...

Greenpeace has published a fact sheet on Beznau with a list of incidents. According to this, for example, in 1992 two workers died who were in an unpumped room with argon. In 1997 there was a total failure of a cooling system for two weeks. According to the Swiss supervisory authority ENSI (then HSK), however, "one of three emergency cooling lines was not immediately ready for use for two weeks." In August 2009, two workers were badly exposed to radiation due to uncoordinated work. Incidents and emergency shutdowns have increased since 2007.

The August 2009 incident was assessed as an INES level 2 incident. Because of the incident, ENSI only certified that the Beznau nuclear power plant had sufficient operational safety in 2010 and initiated criminal proceedings...

Climate killer | Wind turbines | Greenhouse gas

Greenhouse gas SF6

Climate killers in wind turbines

Wind farms are to be expanded more quickly. But the systems contain a substance that contributes to the greenhouse effect. Although this could be avoided, the EU wants to allow long transition periods.

Sulfur hexafluoride has fascinating properties. Above all: the gas is a perfect insulator. That is why it is mainly used in so-called switchgear - i.e. "nodes" in which the electrical energy is distributed. Gas-insulated switchgear is especially useful where there is little space. This is why such switches are installed in wind turbines, for example.

But the substance also has a fatal property: Sulfur hexafluoride - in short: SF6 - has the strongest greenhouse effect of all known substances. It is around 22.800 times more potent than the same amount of carbon dioxide. And: once it has entered the atmosphere, it takes more than 3000 years for SF6 to decompose again and become ineffective...

Greenpeace | castor container | Stretch operation

Nuclear phase-out

Greenpeace demands anti-nuclear commitment from Alliance 90/The Greens

With a replica nuclear waste container, environmentalists are urging the ruling party to take a clear stance against extending nuclear power.

Six Greenpeace activists protested on Thursday morning in front of the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen party headquarters in Berlin with the four-tonne replica of the yellow castor container. They unfurled a banner that read, "Nuclear Power? Not another day!”. With this, the environmentalists referred to the willingness indicated by prominent politicians from the ranks of the party involved in the federal government to soften the strict nuclear phase-out schedule. Several high-ranking party representatives, such as party leader Ricarda Lang, had recently indicated that in view of a bottleneck in German energy supply that could possibly be imminent from autumn or winter, if the last three German nuclear power plants were to be operated beyond the statutory shutdown date of December 31, they could be open to discussion. With the protest, Greenpeace is now addressing “above all the chairmen Ricarda Lang and Omid Nouripour” to “commit themselves to the statutory nuclear phase-out on December 31, 2022. "The Greens must not allow themselves to be harnessed to a populist pro-nuclear campaign," said Gerald Neubauer, Greenpeace's energy expert.

France | Electricity price | mock debate

If you want to understand high electricity prices in Germany, you have to look to France rather than Russia

The structural crisis of French nuclear power is a key price driver on the German electricity market. This is hardly noticed in this country.

Conclusion: The problem of French nuclear power as a decisive price driver and uncertainty factor must penetrate much broader awareness. There is far too much to do and to decide to dwell on smoke screens and mock debates about a German nuclear resurgence.

"Indecent even for established capitalists" - scientist Harald Lesch speaks plainly to Markus Lanz

Markus Lanz discussed the gas levy and the excess profit tax on Wednesday. Scientist Harald Lesch spoke plain language and did not take good care of the business of the oil companies. A statement by FDP politician Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermanns particularly annoyed the experts.

Gas levy and excess profit tax were vehemently discussed at “Markus Lanz” on Wednesday. In particular, scientist Harald Lesch spoke plainly. Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann's statements about winning left him "pretty speechless". An indictment followed against the mineral oil companies.
"PR stunt", "political calculation" or even a "sleight of hand"? Neither "Welt" journalist Robin Alexander, nor astrophysicist Harald Lesch or host Markus Lanz found kind words for Christian Lindner on Wednesday evening.

Clever concept with soy substitute meadow and Agri-PV

Meadow plants instead of soy as animal feed, agri-photovoltaics with tracked solar trackers, low-temperature use of waste heat for drying – Michael Schneider from Stoffenried shows everything that is possible in agriculture.

Farmer Michael Schneider from Stoffenried takes a holistic approach to sustainability and agri-PV. He operates meadow PV and makes soy substitutes for the entire livestock sector from green biomass such as flowering meadows. This is how he solves the omega3 deficiency age, as he himself wrote to us. What is also certain is that less soy has to be imported as feed for livestock. In this way, CO2 is saved - and maybe one or the other monoculture that displaces Brazilian jungle ...

New construction NPP | Flamanville | Hinkley Point C | Olkiluoto

Nuclear offensive fails

The energy crisis in Europe has so far brought no orders to the nuclear industry. Instead, older reactors collapse while construction costs for new nuclear power plants rise.

Too little cooling water from overheated rivers, corrosion damage, hairline cracks, weld problems, staff shortages and upcoming maintenance and repair work on decrepit plants have put France in an acute state of emergency. The electricity price is far higher than in Germany and had briefly climbed to an insane three euros per kilowatt hour on the stock exchanges. Without massive electricity imports and the operation of gas-fired power plants, the lights went out in the Grande Nation. At the same time, the French state had to take over the ailing nuclear company EDF, whose mountain of debt is estimated at 65 billion euros by the end of the year. The fact that the completion of the only new nuclear power plant in Flamanville is being delayed further and further completes the disaster. The Court of Auditors recently put the costs there at a horrific 19,2 billion euros.

What's next in the neighboring country? The outages "can last for several years," admits EDF ...

Runtime | frackingNuclear lobby | WiP

Runtime debate bogged down in the summer slump

In the meantime, almost everyone has said something about the use of nuclear energy, and there were the most abstruse suggestions, but unfortunately no new ones:

The self-proclaimed "energy expert" of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, Jens Spahn, presents his contribution in particularly simple language:

"I would let the nuclear power plants run longer as long as the gas shortage lasts."

Very clever, of course the man knows very well that the natural gas crisis will never end and that in a few years we will inevitably stop using fossil resources. In plain language: He simply wants us to return to nuclear energy for good.

Other "experts" say we should take China as a model, as well as Japan, Egypt and Turkey.

Interestingly, Russia is not at the top of the list of exemplary countries, although Putin is having nuclear power plants built not only in Russia, but also in Turkey and Egypt.

Before it gets even more embarrassing and ours Tin Can Army possibly also come up with the idea of reintroducing the death penalty and the "Fehrbelliner cavalry march" to raise it to the national anthem, the summer slump filled with all the rubbish of the past will hopefully be over soon.

fracking | Natural gas | Kini Jödler

Comment: Fracking in Germany is not a solution either

No space, no economic gain, no climate benefit and then the environmental damage. The effort for fracking would not be worth it.

The Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) calls for the controversial natural gas production from unconventional sources using fracking to be "open-ended". As if that hadn't happened long ago, for example by the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) or in the fracking regulation package of the three Federal Ministries for Economics, Environment and Research of the previous government. The fact that the most important unconventional natural gas fields are in northern Germany suits him well. So he still doesn't have to do anything in Bavaria, such as building wind power plants. After all, natural gas is now considered "green" ...

Communication | Propagandamilitary-industrial complexIraq warUkraine War

brainwashed? – Strategic communication!

The then US President and NATO made mistakes in justifying the Iraq war. Lessons have been learned from this. Russia's Ukraine war is supposed to appear as a breach of civilization unprecedented since 1945.

The lines that Wolfgang Borchert wrote two years after the Second World War, after Hiroshima, were moved by the great concern of a nuclear Third World War and motivated by the fact that few people showed the same determination:

You. Man in the village and man in the city. If they come tomorrow and bring you the draft order, then there's only one thing to do: say no!

Because if you don't say no, if you don't say no, mothers, (...) then the last human being, with torn intestines and contaminated lungs, will wander around unanswered and lonely under the poisonous glowing sun and swaying stars, lonely between the (... ) concrete blocks desolate cities, the last man, skinny, mad, blasphemous, lamenting - and his terrible lamentation:

Why? will run away unheard in the steppe, blow through the bursting ruins, seep into the rubble of the churches, smack against bunkers, fall in pools of blood, unheard, unanswered (...) all of this will happen, tomorrow, maybe tomorrow, maybe already tonight, ... if - if - if you don't say no.
Wolfgang Borchert

To ensure that the population does not heed such warnings, the military-industrial complex has adopted "strategic communication", a technique of manipulation used by the advertising industry. In 2015, the Kalkar strategy forge Joint Air Power Competence Center (JAPCC) complained that their opponents ("hostile entities") had influenced the public so effectively that the majority of the population is skeptical about the military's operations ...

brainwashing

Brainwashing (English brainwashing, also mind control, "consciousness control") is a concept of so-called psychological manipulation. Tactics of mental reprogramming attack the target person's self-confidence and their own powers of judgment in order to destabilize their basic attitudes and perceptions of reality and then replace them with new attitudes. Older brainwashing methods used physical violence to break the mental resistance. Brainwashing theories first arose in connection with totalitarian states. Later, they were also occasionally used in religious groups (sects). There is no scientific evidence that brainwashing is possible.

In 1975, in its Declaration on the Protection of All Persons from Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (No. 3452, December 9, 1975), the UN also included the method of brainwashing using manipulative psychotechnics...

resistance (politics)

Resistance is the refusal to obey or active opposition to the authorities or the government.

It is initially of secondary importance whether the rulers against whom resistance is being exercised exercise their rule legally, legitimately or illegally. Evaluations such as "justified resistance", goals and means of resistance, moral and legal concerns require an observer's point of view: it depends on who, where and at what time the evaluation is made. The resister will always evaluate the resistance differently than the one against whom the resistance is directed. The latter, however, is usually the "authority" who at the same time has the power to define law and order. Accordingly, resistance is outside the set order.

background and demarcation

Resistance as a form of social and political debate has been anchored in European political culture since ancient times. In almost all forms of society there was or is a consensus that resistance can be necessary and legitimate in certain cases. In specific cases, opinions sometimes differ.

Resistance must be distinguished from revolution because it is not fundamentally aimed at reforming the social order. In certain circumstances, the restoration of an old law or a legal system that has been repealed can be the central concern. Nevertheless, a movement that started as a resistance can lead to a revolution...
