A current evaluation on behalf of the NRW Environment Ministry currently sees no influence of the former THTR Hamm nuclear reactor on cancer in the surrounding population. This is confirmed by a report by the Epidemiological Cancer Register of North Rhine-Westphalia, which examined the cancer rates in the population. For this purpose, the cancer frequencies in the surrounding municipalities of Hamm, Beckum, Ahlen, Lippetal and Welver were analyzed. "The people who live near the former nuclear reactor need security that they are not exposed to any health hazards, because their health is a top priority," said the North Rhine-Westphalian Environment Minister Johannes Remmel when presenting the epidemiological report Cancer Register NRW in Düsseldorf. However, the report also raises an open question, which the state government will now pursue vigorously. The NRW cancer registry has found an abnormality in thyroid cancer diseases. Nuclear opponent: "Uranium enrichment is not a toy"

The Dutch government, in coordination with the federal and British governments, is considering a possible IPO of the uranium enrichment company Urenco. This emerges from a letter from Dutch Finance Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem to the Dutch Parliament dated May 23 that has now become known (see source below). The anti-nuclear power initiatives in Münsterland, Robin Wood and the Federal Association of Citizens' Initiatives for Environmental Protection (BBU) consider these plans to be irresponsible. They demand a clear veto from the federal government against the free sale of Urenco and also the immediate shutdown of the only German uranium enrichment plant in Gronau...

Shortly after the Fukushima disaster, 15.000 people demonstrated in Gronau against the continued operation of the uranium enrichment plant (UAA) in Gronau. This supplies the fuel for about 35 nuclear plants worldwide - although the Federal Republic of Germany has said goodbye to nuclear power. An obvious contradiction. And although the red-green NRW state government also wanted to get out of nuclear energy, it agreed in 2005 to a significant expansion of nuclear capacities in the UAA. Another contradiction...
