China | renewable

Renewables: China wants to install 156 gigawatts

China's ambitions in renewable energy are growing. A leading think tank in the country expects China to install 25 percent more wind turbines and solar panels this year than in 2021. That would mean that more than 150 gigawatts of installed capacity would be added, more than the total number of renewables installed in Germany. For comparison: In Austria, a total of 2,5 gigawatts of solar and 3,5 gigawatts of wind energy are installed.

Kini Jödler | Runtime debate | WiP

Kini and the "Runtime Buam"

Part 1

What was Don Trumpl's "Fake News" nagging yesterday is Kini's "technical Bullshit" today. But note: Anyone who dumps crap on others must be careful that it doesn't fall on their own feet.

The Kini thickens his cheeks and puffs himself up mightily, the hero; when Mama Merkel was still there, he didn't dare to be really nasty, but now he senses his chance and does what a real Bayerntrumpl does, insults his political opponents properly. Yes, he can make wind. But apart from wind, it has little to offer, at least not a single new idea. He doesn't want wind turbines and he can't do nuclear power plants, but he can do press conferences!

And he does everything else on the side:
In order for nuclear energy to continue to operate smoothly, the fuel elements should have been ordered by December 2021 at the latest, which is why this superfluous debate on the duration of the project is about 2022 - 12 months too late in mid-18, if it should ever have been successful at all.

If there is a blackout in Bavaria, it is mainly because the Minister President responsible is not doing his job properly, is hindering the expansion of renewable energies and instead takes care of some "technical Bullshit".

Part 2

About Merzthutjanix there isn't much to say other than slamming on the brakes, he only does what is strictly necessary, if only for his Back to the Future project...

Wind energy expansion in Germany remains too low - criticism of the on-shore wind law

Münster - The aim of the federal government is to accelerate the expansion of wind energy. So far, none of this has actually arrived on site. The majority of Germans do not want the EU to classify natural gas and nuclear power as sustainable

The majority of Germans do not support the EU Commission's plan to classify natural gas and nuclear power as sustainable in the EU taxonomy. A survey commissioned by the WWF shows that only 22 percent of citizens think that the EU should classify nuclear power as environmentally friendly. In the case of natural gas, only 38 percent believe that the EU should give this energy source a green label. This is in clear contrast to solar energy (92 percent) and wind energy (87 percent).

Runtime | Fuel rods

Dispute between Söder and Scholz:

Lack of fuel rods: "Bullshit" or not?

Russia cuts gas supplies. Opposition politicians - and now also the FDP - are considering continuing to operate German nuclear power plants. Would new fuel rods be available for this?

-

IMHO

In order to extend the life of the fuel assemblies beyond December 2022, the power of the old uranium steam engines would have to be immediately throttled to prevent the fire from going out before the new fuel assemblies are ready for use. A zero-sum game, less electricity in autumn and winter, but a few weeks longer, with all the familiar risks. Our real problem is not the electricity, what we lack is gas, i.e. heat energy, and that doesn't come from the nuclear power plants anyway...

About what kind of "Bullshit" Gentlemen runtime debaters want us to rack our brains? Is there really nothing more important to discuss?

For example: How do we get as much as possible as quickly as possible Solar Thermal and Photovoltaics on the roofs and, for my part, also pretty little electricity-producing ones windmills in the gardens? Solar thermal does not need high technology, no solar power modules from China, which are becoming increasingly rare and expensive, and every installer can set up such systems quite quickly if he finds the time and the employees ...

So there's enough"meaningful" to discuss and above all to do!

Electricity | Coal | Climate & Environment | CO2

Coal "bridge" tears down the climate budget

If Germany finds itself in a gas crisis and largely replaces the current generation of electricity from natural gas with coal, there is a risk of additional tons of CO2 emissions in the tens of millions. The already tight German climate budget would probably finally be blown up.

*

Runtimeuranium | Coal

The new nuclear power debate

Is a term extension an option?

Less gas comes to Germany through the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, and the storage facilities are far from being sufficiently full. In order to save gas for the coming winter and to fill the storage tanks more quickly, calls are being made for an extension of the operating times for nuclear power plants. Theoretically it would be possible - but it's not that simple.

*

Photovoltaics

Solar boom on German roofs

At the beginning of the year, a third more solar power was fed into the power grid. More than two million photovoltaic systems have already been installed on houses and properties.

*

HydrogenStorage

Researchers develop hydrogen battery

Chemical cycle system binds hydrogen reversibly and with high yield

In the future, a combination of two simple chemicals could help to reversibly store hydrogen and absorb carbon dioxide at the same time. Such a chemical hydrogen storage facility enables the safe transport and storage of the energy gas - a crucial prerequisite for the energy transition. The new hydrogen "battery" is made possible by a chemical cycle in which a manganese catalyst, formic acid and the amino acid lysine play a key role.

Kuosheng

... Kuosheng-1 had an operating license until the end of 2021, but was prematurely shut down forever in early July 2021 due to the fuel pool being full.

Seismic hazard and accidents

The Kuosheng NPP is only a few kilometers away from a tectonic fracture and is therefore at high risk of earthquakes. A 7,6 magnitude earthquake on September 21, 1999 automatically shut down several reactors in Chinshan and Kousheng.

According to a website of the "Austrian Ecology Institute", three workers were exposed to increased radiation in 1993 when fuel rods fell into the water. The event was classified as an INES Level 3 incident.

On May 15, 2001, the operator found that 54 of the 157 control rods in the Kuosheng-2 reactor, which are designed to control nuclear reactions and protect fuel assemblies from overheating, were cracked. The operator checked all control rods of the same design in the other nuclear power plants...

The nuclear chain

Sellafield/Windscale, UK

Nuclear factory
The largest civil and military nuclear facility in Europe is in Sellafield. While in the past plutonium was produced here for the British nuclear weapons program, the site now serves as a nuclear waste reprocessing plant. The Great Fire of 1957 and numerous radioactive leaks contaminated the environment and exposed the population to elevated levels of radiation.

-

This accident, as well as several other releases of radioactivity originating from Sellafield, are no longer in the German Wikipedia to find. The classified as "Serious Accident". INES 5 event from 1957 at Windscale is the only pre-2005 Sellafield incident that hasn't disappeared from Wikipedia...

Shika

... In June 1999, three of 1 control rods on the Shika-89 unit slipped from their normal positions, setting off an uncontrolled nuclear fission chain reaction. This event, which the operator kept secret until 2007, was eventually classified as an INES level 2 incident. The reactor was therefore shut down from March 2007 to mid-May 2009. The incident was traced to an error in a manual...

Tihange

On June 18, 1988, a leak in the reactor core emergency cooling system was discovered.

The most dangerous incident, classified as INES level 2, occurred in 2002: due to a valve being opened accidentally, the pressure in the primary circuit of the Tihange nuclear power plant dropped and cooling water evaporated. If the safety systems hadn't responded, a meltdown could have resulted.

In 2010, 600 liters of acid spilled and contaminated the Meuse. For years, two liters of radioactive water leaked out of a spent fuel storage facility every day; the reason for this was not found until 2013. The nuclear power plant is also located in an earthquake-prone area ...

Reporters Without Borders

Freedom of the press - why?

Information is the first step to change - that's why authoritarian governments are not the only ones who fear free and independent reporting.

Where the media cannot report on injustice, abuse of power or corruption, there is no public control, no free formation of opinion and no peaceful reconciliation of interests.

Freedom of the press is the basis of a democratic society.

“Everyone has the right to freedom of expression; this right includes freedom to express opinions without controversy and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas by any means of communication, regardless of frontiers.” Article 19 of the United Nations “Universal Declaration of Human Rights” (December 1948).

Press freedom

Freedom of the press, or more precisely external freedom of the press, is the right of broadcasting institutions, the press and other media to exercise their activities unhindered, above all to publish news and opinions uncensored by the state.

Freedom of the press or media should guarantee freedom of information, free formation and expression of opinion, pluralistic diversity of opinion and thus democratic decision-making, as well as transparency and control of politics by public opinion.

The idea of freedom, especially for the news and opinion press, was developed particularly during the Enlightenment period.

In Germany, Article 5 of the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany guarantees freedom of the press together with freedom of opinion, freedom of broadcasting and freedom of information. Today, media law regulates details of legal issues, especially press law...
