Fukushima | war | Climate & Environment

Fukushima, war, climate and possible nuclear catastrophe

The circumstances mean that today we not only have to talk about Fukushima, but also about Chernobyl, war, and climate and nuclear disasters. Unfortunately, we have to state that everything we have warned about for decades has unfortunately actually happened.

The consequences of the reactor catastrophe in Fukushima, which took place 11 years ago, still concern us today. The Japanese government wants to discharge 1,3 million tons of highly radioactive cooling water unfiltered into the sea next year. This is irresponsible!

We have always warned that nuclear power plants pose a huge danger in armed conflicts. Now the 19 reactor units in Ukraine are partly under direct fire in this war. Shells hit the reactor site, parts of the plant burn...

... Any weapon sent by the federal government to the war zone will not shorten this war, but prolong it! Tens of thousands of people will die and Ukraine will soon be completely in ruins. For what? Due to the consequences of the war, there will be no better future in the foreseeable future. So what's the point of this war? Does it really make sense for Ukraine to conduct its struggle as it is being conducted now? Are there no alternatives?

The media prefer to question ministers, generals, boxers and military experts about this war. Real peace and conflict researchers almost never get a chance to speak. We are witnessing a fatal renaissance in military thinking. Fundamentally other civil conflict resolution options are hardly noticed in the media ...

The filling level of the gas storage facilities throughout the EU has been falling for seasonal reasons since mid-October 2021. Nuclear and armaments industry at the tax drip

In addition to the 100 billion euros that have already been promised for the armaments industry, extending the life of nuclear power plants would send the wrong signal Nuclear Lobby and MiC that it is the right way to instigate a war in order to obtain further billions and, quite incidentally, to overturn democratic decisions with far-reaching significance, such as the decision to phase out nuclear power.

Vigil in Hamm on the market square at the Pauluskirche!

Eleven years after the disaster in Fukushima

- No nuclear funding by the EU!
- No nuclear waste shipments to Russia!
- No nuclear factories in Germany!

Eleven years after the nuclear catastrophe in Japan, the EU wants to increase support for the construction of nuclear power plants, allegedly to do something for the climate. Nuclear waste is also transported towards Russia via the Hammer marshalling yard. We had therefore submitted a citizens' application so that this would be prevented in the future. This citizens' application was approved by the Hamm City Council on March 01st.

The uranium enrichment plant (UAA) in Gronau produces a lot of nuclear waste and is still in operation - the end is open. The same applies to the fuel element factory in Lingen, where the operating company, the French nuclear company Framatome, was not just thinking about a joint venture with the Russian nuclear company TVEL. This deal was almost perfect...

The fuel element factory in Lingen supplies more than 30 nuclear power plants worldwide with nuclear fuel.

The fighting near the nuclear power plants in Ukraine shows how dangerous this technology really is!

The discussion about the dismantling of the THTR in Hamm begins. So there is still enough to do.

More anniversaries in March, see above

Target nuclear power plant

Additional Risks

Nuclear power plants are not only endangered by natural disasters or internal causes such as quality defects, power failures and human error. Military flight maneuvers and nuclear power plant sites located in flight paths from civil airports also pose a risk, as the past has already shown.

Due to the current threat situation, the risk of an attack has also increased further. There have been several plans for attacks and attacks that have actually been carried out in recent decades.

A study by the Society for Plant and Reactor Safety (GRS) from 2003, commissioned by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, pointed to the dangers of plane crashes, targeted terrorist attacks and the effects of war. This study was kept secret from the public upon completion...

Perpetrated and planned attacks during the operational phase

Brennilis/Monts d´Arrée (France)

On August 15, 1975, Breton terrorists fighting for Brittany's independence from France attacked the reactor with two bombs.

The separatists had crossed the facility's artificial cooling lake in a boat and cut through the fence. A vent and water inlet were damaged by the blasts. The reactor was temporarily shut down for inspection.

Indian Point (USA)

The terrorist organization al-Qaeda was apparently planning to carry out an attack on the → Indian Point nuclear power plant on September 11, 2001, which is only 56 kilometers north of New York City. Had this been implemented, it is estimated that 43.700 people would have died instantly and 518.000 would have contracted cancer. The cleanup and sanitation would have cost $XNUMX trillion...

Global warming

Current global warming or warming (colloquially “climate change”) is the increase in the mean temperature of the Earth's near atmosphere and seas. It is an anthropogenic (= man-made) climate change, since it is due to the increased activities of energy, agriculture, forestry, industry, transport and buildings since the beginning of industrialization, which emit greenhouse gases ...

Climate catastrophe

Climate catastrophe is the term for climate change with worldwide catastrophic effects. This also includes uncontrolled global warming, for example as a greenhouse-earth scenario. In the mass media in particular, the term is often used as a framework for interpreting the feared consequences of man-made climate change. Sometimes, even in climate impact research, drastic consequences are referred to as climate catastrophes. Climate catastrophes serve as motifs in literature and film. If left unsolved, the current political, social and technological climate crisis would result in a climate catastrophe...
