05 October 1966 (INES 4) the "fast breeder" in the Akw Enrico Fermi overheated ...

07. to 12. October 1957 (INES 5 - NAMS 4,6) the 'INES 5' accident in Windscale / Sellafield, in which 1786 TBq radiation were released.

12 October 1969 (INES 4) one of 5 'INES 4' incidents in Sellafield, in this event 1,8 TBq radiation was released.

15 October 1958 "Vinča" Institute for Nuclear Sciences near Belgrade, during an experiment 6 researchers were irradiated, one died ...

17 October 1969 (INES 4) Akw Saint-Laurent, more than 50 kilograms of uranium fuel began to melt ...

Dear friends from Münster and the surrounding area,

the exploratory paper of the new traffic light coalition is available - and in terms of climate protection / nuclear phase-out, as feared, it is as soft as wax and bypasses all hot topics:

The coal exit should "ideally" take place by 2030 - to be honest: ideally the coal exit should take place tomorrow! Successful climate protection requires clear, fast exit dates and no non-binding wish lists.

There are also no financial commitments for investments in climate protection - no new debts should be incurred. And the FDP has successfully blocked the speed limit that has been urgently needed for decades. A stop to the motorway construction is also missing.

What stands out are three other things that are completely missing: On the one hand, the three parties do not promise any protection against further village demolitions in the Rhineland and East Germany - and in Lützerath at the Garzweiler opencast mine, RWE is currently pushing massively for the last residents to be evicted. Promises are only made to those employed in coal mining - that is very one-sided and therefore inappropriate.

Dirty coal imports too, e.g. B. from Russia and Colombia, should still be possible.

And: The whole area of nuclear policy is completely missing - not a word about uranium enrichment, fuel element exports, nuclear waste storage, research into "new" reactors, etc. All three parties have avoided these hot topics.

From our point of view, this is not a good result - we are not being fooled by the supposedly great atmosphere between the three parties and are calling for a real, complete and binding phase-out of coal and nuclear power!

We are therefore expressly calling for participation in the next Fridays for Future climate strike demo here in Münster, now on Friday, October 22nd, at 15 p.m. from the main station: https://fff-muenster.de/

The central strike is taking place in Berlin, but the Fridays in Münster thankfully also created a short-term demonstration opportunity for everyone who does not make it to Berlin.

Without pressure from the street, the traffic lights remain with non-binding objectives that clearly miss the 1,5 degree target of Paris - that still does not seem to have arrived in Berlin!

Atomic lobby's healer-prayer logic is also really convincing:

We need atomic ovens to combat atmospheric warming!

Super new, innovative steam engines with their beautiful blue hydrogen will surely solve all of our global climate and water problems!

Subsidizing nuclear power

Unprofitable for 60 years - construction and operation of nuclear power plants

A popular argument in favor of using nuclear energy is that it is cheaper than other types of energy generation. This is not true.

The costs of nuclear energy have been kept artificially low for decades with the help of subsidies worth billions. The state makes direct grants or grants indirect benefits for the construction and operation of nuclear power plants, which the taxpayer has to bear. This applies not only to Germany, but also globally. As the German Institute for Economic Research emphasized, nuclear power plants are not economically viable and have to be subsidized in various ways.

As early as 1953, according to an article in "Spiegel" from the same year, it had been concluded in the USA in atomic plants and laboratories of the government as well as in electrical and chemical companies from the experiences at that time that "nuclear power is not competitive" and must be state-run be funded ...

Nuclear energy in France

In September 2011, the top candidates of the (then) opposition Socialist Party (PS) announced that they wanted to withdraw from the use of nuclear energy in the long term. In November 2011 it became known that socialists and the Greens wanted to take 2012 of the 24 nuclear reactors off the grid by 58 at the latest if they won an election in 2025. The Fessenheim nuclear power plant should be shut down immediately.

In June 2011, in a representative survey by the Institut français d'opinion publique, 62% of the French were in favor of phasing out nuclear energy within 25 to 30 years; another 15% wanted to get out faster.

François Hollande was elected President of France on May 6, 2012. He won the runoff election against incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy.

In the 2012 French general elections on October and 17 June 2012, the Parti Socialiste received an absolute majority of seats in the National Assembly. Thus there were greater opportunities to change energy policy; In the end, however, not a single nuclear power plant was switched off under Hollande ...
