Nuclear power in Germany: Cleared? Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that!

Although the nuclear phase-out is still not complete, the issue of nuclear power played no role in the election campaign. Is there even a renaissance?

nuclear power? Was there something? The topic played practically no role in the federal election campaign, and the same can be expected for the exploratory and coalition negotiations. And why, many might think. The nuclear phase-out is going, the problem has been solved.

Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that. There are still six large power reactors connected to the grid in Germany, and the Federal Republic is – after France – the second largest producer of nuclear power and nuclear waste in the EU. Brokdorf, Grohnde and Gundremmingen are to be shut down at the end of the year, and the last three reactors, Ohu, Emsland and Neckarwestheim, are expected to follow a year later.
Nuclear power plants must meet all safety requirements up to the last day. From the point of view of environmentalists, however, there are increasing indications that the nuclear regulatory authorities do not (any longer) take this very seriously...

Nuclear phase-out in Germany

Moratorium and exit decision

In spring 2011 the last decade of the use of atomic energy was heralded in Germany. After Chancellor Angela Merkel had agreed an extension of the service life of German nuclear power plants with the energy companies on September 5, 2010, the Fukushima disaster of March 11, 2011 led to a U-turn in energy policy.

On March 14th, the federal government decided on a moratorium for three months. Seven older reactors, which were to be subjected to a "comprehensive safety review", were taken off the grid: Biblis A and B, Brunsbüttel, Isar 1, Neckarwestheim I, Philippsburg I, Unterweser ...

Wikipedia

Nuclear phase-out

The political decision of a state to discontinue the operation of nuclear power plants and to forego nuclear energy for electricity generation is referred to as nuclear phase-out, also nuclear power phase-out or nuclear waiver. Italy has so far completely phased out the generation of atomic energy, while other countries such as Germany, Belgium and Switzerland have announced or initiated a nuclear phase-out. Austria did not put its completed Zwentendorf nuclear power plant into operation as early as 1978 after a referendum, and other countries canceled some of the nuclear programs that were well advanced.

The nuclear phase-out is an important part of the energy transition; However, this is much broader and provides for the complete conversion to renewable energies as well as the complete abandonment of conventional energy sources (nuclear fuels and fossil fuels) in the long term ...
