Everything safe ??
On the occasion of the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 9 we asked the HKG (High Temperature Nuclear Power Plant Society) about the safety of the decommissioned THTR. Since the EWI study came to the conclusion as early as 2001 that the reactor shell had to be retrofitted in order to survive a plane crash, we wanted to know whether the HKG would reassess the risk after the attacks. After all, there are still 1988 kg of plutonium in the reactor in addition to the radioactively irradiated parts of the plant.
While many politicians never tire of stressing that nothing is as it was before 11/9, the HKG confidently proclaims that it is as it has always been - namely "safe". We do not want to withhold from our readers how the HKG comes to such astonishing insights:
“As you probably know from various press publications, work has been commissioned by the Federal Environment Ministry with the aim of updating risk assessments for operational nuclear power plants. Should this also result in new assessments for decommissioned nuclear facilities and thus new analyzes also become necessary for the THTR 300 facility, these will of course be carried out.
