How many of our greenhouse gas emissions are we attributing to China?
"Made in China" is written on many of our products, but we do not bear the responsibility for the climate. This circumstance also distorts the political debate
When it comes to reducing carbon emissions, the world's eyes always turn to the biggest emitters, and according to the Our World in Data portal, they are timely
- in first place China with 10,67 billion tons, followed by
- the USA with 4,71 billion tons,
- the EU-28 with 2,92 billion tons,
- India with 2,44 billion tons and
- Russia with 1,58 billion tons
pure CO₂ emissions, excluding other greenhouse gases.
However, if emissions are calculated per capita and not as a total per country, then the picture looks different again and the top 5 are replaced by small island states and oil-rich countries on the Arabian Peninsula.
China's per capita emissions of 7,41 tons are just over half the US amount of 14,24 tons...
