June 09, 2021 - German environmental aid awards the Golden Vulture 2021 for the "boldest environmental lie of the year" to the energy company RWE

Around 25.000 consumers voted online: RWE voted by far the most brazen environmental liar

Greenwashing by companies damages the environment and prevents real climate protection

With a protest mail campaign at www.duh.de/GoldenerGeier, DUH is now calling on the company to change company policy in such a way that previous environmental lies become honest promises and climate protection is promoted

Also nominated for the abusive prize were: Tetra Pak, “Nature Box” from Henkel and Schwarzkopf, BMW motorcycles and Nespresso coffee capsules

This year, the German Environmental Aid (DUH) awards the "Golden Vulture" to the energy company RWE. The decision was made by around 25.000 consumers who voted online for the “most brazen environmental lie of the year”. The reason: With "Today, the largest part of our core business is green electricity" and similar slogans, the company advertises itself and its electricity in image films, on posters and in Internet campaigns. However, the reality is very different: in 2020 the actual share of renewable energies in the Group's energy generation was only 20,2 percent and thus not only far below its own promise, but also far behind the German electricity mix (2020: around 46 percent) . This makes RWE one of the largest CO2 emitters in Europe ...

Climate Protection Act

June 08th, 2021 - The last rearing up

Lobbyists always manage to slow down the restructuring of the economy. For how much longer?

For a year and a half, the federal government wanted nothing to do with new climate targets. Further tightening is excessive and unnecessary. Environmental groups and scientists would never get enough anyway. Meanwhile, other countries passed Germany. The USA has transformed itself from a total refuser to a model student and wants to invest two trillion dollars, Great Britain presented a climate target of reducing greenhouse gases by 78 percent by 2035. And the EU Commission also increased its targets by 15 percentage points...

March 01, 2019 - EU Commission declares fusion reactor a climate protection project

The EU wants to spend billions on the "Iter" research reactor for climate protection - nobody knows whether nuclear fusion will ever be a good source of energy. There is a simple reason for the arithmetic trick.

Some consider nuclear fusion to be the energy source of the future, if not the salvation of humanity: taming the power of the sun promises unlimited energy without pollution. Others blaspheme that nuclear fusion will forever remain the most promising technology of the future. Only one thing is certain: Nobody knows whether fusion reactors will ever deliver more electricity than their operation will consume.

However, this does not prevent the EU Commission from booking 100 percent of the expenditure for the Iter research reactor as climate protection measures. That the Brussels authority is trying to do this emerges from internal EU documents that SPIEGEL has at its disposal.

One of these is the proposal to amend the 2007 decision to build Iter, which is designed to study nuclear fusion. According to the paper that the Romanian EU Council Presidency sent to the member states at the end of February, 100 percent of the expenses for Iter should be attributed to the EU's climate protection measures ...

Lobbying

Lobbying, lobbying or lobbying is a term taken from the English (lobbying) for representation of interests in politics and society, in which interest groups ("lobbies") try to influence the executive and the legislature - especially by cultivating personal connections. Lobbying also influences public opinion through public relations work. This is mainly done through the mass media. Common names for lobbying are, for example, public affairs, political communication and political advice. Companies and organizations sometimes have an office in the capital or a representative in the capital, but also offices at the state governments.

Lobbying is an aspect of public policy making in democracies and is not an immoral practice per se. Bringing interests to decision-makers is an essential feature of parliamentary democracy and can be assigned to the intermediary area between citizens and the state. In order to be able to make decisions in the overall interest of society, politicians have to inform themselves about highly complex issues and content. In doing so, they depend on well-prepared information and arguments from various interest groups. Vice versa, interest groups enter into dialogue with politicians in order to influence political decision-making processes.

It is critically noted that lobbying can only have positive effects on the democratic quality of a state if there is compliance with regulatory codes of conduct or the greatest possible transparency. The ideal image of lobbying is clouded in particular by lobbying affairs that become known regularly. In these, politicians in positions of power are usually bribed with money by companies in order to make politics in the interests of the financiers. In such cases, lobbying is a form of corruption. The term lobbyism therefore often has a negative connotation, so that lobbyists rarely use this term, but instead use terms such as consultant, public affairs manager or policy advisor ...

The lobby organizations

In the last few decades many national and international lobby organizations have emerged that represent the interests of the nuclear industry in politics and try to influence the opinion of the public in the media. They also serve to network lobbyists from politics, business, research and the media.

It is criticized that institutions in which the federal government is involved are members of lobby organizations such as the German Atomic Forum or the Nuclear Technology Society and support them with contributions ...
