Mar. 28, 1979 - The Harrisburg Partial Meltdown

At 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning, one of the worst nuclear accidents in human history began at the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

A cooling water pump had failed and reactor block 2 had shut down properly. A safety valve opened and allowed the overpressure created by the decay heat to escape from the interior of the reactor. For unknown reasons, however, this safety valve did not close again when the pressure inside the reactor normalized, and so 1000 liters of cooling water per minute now flowed into a catch basin instead of cooling the reactor.

The first release of radioactivity occurred at 4:30 a.m.

At 6:30 a.m., one of the technicians discovered the error and closed an emergency valve.

In doing so, he prevented a super-GAU.

The highest level of alert was declared at 7:24 a.m.

8:00 am US President Carter learned of the accident.

9:30 a.m. A company spokesman lied to the public, claiming that no radioactivity had been released. He suppressed the highly radioactive gas that was released, as well as the radioactive water that had flowed into the Susquehanna River.

On Friday, March 30, 1979, at 7 a.m., technicians had to let the highly radioactive hydrogen mixture escape from the reactor, because the pressure kept rising and the risk of explosion had become too great. This was the second time that a major disaster was prevented, but a huge radioactive cloud was also sent over the country.

On Friday lunchtime, more than 55 hours after the first release of radioactivity, the governor issued the order to evacuate pregnant women and young children from within 10 kilometers.

A total of 140.000 people fled the area in those days and the propagandists of the nuclear lobby kept lying until almost everyone came back...

When nuclear accidents are discussed, it is mostly about Fukushima 2011 and Chernobyl 1986, the accident in Harrisburg 1979 is somehow not really remembered, although the release of radioactivity in Harrisburg was more than twice as high as in Fukushima.

March 26, 2021 - TOP SECRET!

Federal government declares Lingen uranium factory's nuclear deal with Russia to be a secret. Inquiries from members of the state parliament and the Bundestag remain unanswered.
“What shouldn't the public find out?” Environmentalists are calling for a final nuclear phase-out instead of new nuclear investments

The “nuclear phase-out” planned by the federal government is not taking place in Lingen, Lower Saxony. There is even more plans to invest heavily in the nuclear industry: as recently became known, Framatome, the French parent company of the Lingen fuel element plant ANF, has applied to the Federal Cartel Office for a joint venture with the company JSC TVEL, a subsidiary of the Russian state nuclear group Rosatom. The antitrust authorities approved the controversial application on March 11.3.2021, XNUMX.

What are the plans behind the investment project by the French and Russian nuclear companies in the Lingen fuel element factory?

The Lower Saxony state parliament member Hubertus Zdebel (Die Linken) and Bundestag member Sylvia Kötting-Uhl (Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen) wanted to be answered by the Federal Environment Committee last Wednesday, but they did not get an answer.

In a previous letter from the Federal Ministry of Economics to the MPs, it was stated that “the Federal Government classified the information requested on investment review procedures as classified“ Vs-CONFIDENTIAL ”and sent it to the German Bundestag's secret protection agency”. The agenda item in the Environment Committee was then deleted.

The public will not receive any replies in the future either, because the MPs must remain silent about it if they have access to the secret information ...

March 25, 2021 - Macron, Orbán and Co. are calling for "active" EU support for nuclear energy

A group of seven EU countries, led by French President Emmanuel Macron, called on the European Commission in the run-up to the EU summit beginning today to stop "braking" nuclear power in Europe and to examine options for incorporating it into the regulations of the European Union Include EU for “green finance”.

In a letter to the EU executive, the seven heads of state and government openly declare their support for nuclear energy. This is necessary in order to achieve the EU's climate goals: "We are convinced that all available emission-free and low-emission technologies that contribute to climate neutrality [...] should not only be recognized by the European Union, but should also be actively supported," write the signatories...

EU countries are calling for new subsidies for nuclear energy

The construction of nuclear power plants in Europe had been financed by EURATOM bonds worth billions since 1977, initially in Western Europe, and since 1994 also in Eastern Europe.

Great Britain, France and the Czech Republic, which wanted to further develop nuclear energy, as well as Poland, which was planning to introduce it, demanded in April 2012 that nuclear power should be subsidized. The reason was that they couldn't find private investors for this risky and unprofitable technology. The Süddeutsche Zeitung ruled: "Nuclear power is not worthwhile - not even in France, which gets around 80 percent of its electricity from its 58 reactors. There is no other way of interpreting the letters from Paris, London, Prague and Warsaw with which the countries are involved The European Union should advertise nuclear power. Please make nuclear power eligible for subsidies. The operators of the reactors want money from the pots that are available for solar systems, wind farms and biomass power plants. These letters are an admission of how superfluous nuclear power is. " There was great outrage in Germany about this move, and even EU Energy Commissioner Oettinger rejected such plans. The "taz" and "finanzen.net" deal critically with the demands of the nuclear states.

Probably the driving force behind it was Great Britain, which cannot finance new reactors without subsidies. It was later denied by all sides that there was such an initiative, although it was available on the UK Department of Energy's website.

A motion by the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag "with which any subsidization of new or existing nuclear power plants in the European Union should be stopped" was rejected on May 23, 2012 by the government coalition.

On October 15, 2013, the Prime Ministers of Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary called for support from the European Union for the use and expansion of nuclear energy.

EURATOM contradicts the nuclear phase-out

In its goals and its whole orientation - the promotion and development of atomic energy - EURATOM contradicts the nuclear phase-out in Germany and other European countries.

For example, EURATOM is promoting nuclear energy research in the area of G4 reactors through the "Euratom Fission" program, financed by EU funding.

The EURATOM contract helps ensure that a large number of nuclear transports continue to run through the urban areas of Bremen and Hamburg, despite the nuclear phase-out. This is because it provides "that Member States remove all quantitative restrictions on imports and exports from one another". In 2013, the EU examined whether a prohibition clause against some of the radioactive transports, which was included in the Bremen Port Operations Act, contradicted the EURATOM contract.

You have to ask yourself how consistent it is when the federal government on the one hand initiates the nuclear phase-out, but on the other hand remains a member of EURATOM and financially supports its framework programs for the promotion of nuclear energy.

Nuclear power opponents describe the EURATOM Treaty as out of date and demand that it be abolished. EURATOM has so far established a special position for nuclear energy and secure "old privileges and subsidies". Instead, the treaty must be further developed into an "instrument for nuclear safety and the dismantling of contaminated nuclear waste" ...

Lobbying

Lobbying, lobbying or lobbying is a term taken from the English (lobbying) for the representation of interests in politics and society, in which individual persons or interest groups ("lobbies") try to influence the executive, the legislature - mainly by cultivating personal connections . Lobbying also influences public opinion through public relations work. This is mainly done through the mass media.

The term has negative connotations (secondary meanings), so interest groups do not appear under this term. Common names for lobbying are, for example, public affairs, political communication and political advice. Companies and organizations sometimes have an office in the capital or a representative in the capital, but also offices at the state governments.

In 2006, Thomas Leif and Rudolf Speth introduced the term Fifth Power for lobbying in analogy to the term Fourth Power for the mass media, which, however, is viewed by other authors as exaggerated. Thilo Bode headlined the glyphosate scandal 2017 in the newspaper for German and international politics, in the October 2018 issue: "Lobbyism 2.0: The industrial-political complex." ...

*

Military-industrial complex

The term gained popularity through the US President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who in his farewell speech on January 17, 1961 expressly warned against the entanglements and influences of the military-industrial complex in the USA. Eisenhower, who himself had once been Chief of Staff of the Army, like Mills saw the military-industrial complex as a danger to democratic institutions and democracy. Through the effect of this complex on jobs and economic power, the political leadership could be induced to want to resolve conflicts more militarily than politically and thus act as an extended arm of the armaments industry lobby ...
