Dec 10, 2020 - Saturday, Dec 12, 2020, 14 p.m. - Vigil 'Am Seitenkanal' in the south of Lingen, in front of the fuel element factory

The reason is a unfortunately negative decision by the Hess. Administrative court in Kassel in the matter of fuel element exports from Lingen for Doel 1 and 2. The VGH does not see any suspensive effect for the action of a private person from Aachen against the FA exports and has allowed the operator EDF-Framatome / ANF to transport the fuel elements to Belgium despite ongoing main proceedings to be allowed to carry out the two scrap reactors. The transports can now start at any time - 5-6 truck transports can be expected within approx. Four weeks. Appeals against the decision of the second instance are not possible in the urgent procedure.

In our appeal for donations for the lawsuit against the fuel element exports, we recently pointed it out: The VGH in principle deprives us citizens of any individual legal protection based on the Atomic Energy Act. In the justification, the court is based on the beginnings of the Atomic Energy Act 1958 - Chernobyl and Fukushima do not take place, the nuclear power insecurity of Doel is ignored. There was also no decision on the legality of the export license (neither on representative actions). And the defendant Federal Office did not defend itself in principle. All in all, this is extremely sobering for 2020. The Frankfurt Administrative Court was much further along in its detailed opinion in October.

Here is the dpa report in the Süddeutsche:

https://www.sueddeutsche.de/politik/atom-kassel-gerichtshof-export-von-brennelementen-trotz-klage-erlaubt-dpa.urn-newsml-dpa-com-20090101-201208-99-617343

... and the taz report from this afternoon:

https://taz.de/Gericht-erlaubt-deutsche-Exporte/!5730625/

So we have to defend our rights ourselves, which is why the protest action will take place in front of the fuel element factory on Saturday - if you have time, come by. The nuclear phase-out remains manual work. We guarantee a lot of space and distance if you bring a face mask with you :-)

Three other negative pieces of news about the federal government's current nuclear policy fit this message:

a) The federal government is also simply looking the other way when it comes to the planned new builds of nuclear power plants by Urenco / RWE / EON in NL and GB:

https://taz.de/Grossbritannien-und-Niederlande/!5729028&s=Urenco/

-

b) The federal government wants to allow the EU to provide funding for the use of nuclear power in the production of supposedly "green" hydrogen:

https://www.bund.net/service/presse/pressemitteilungen/detail/news/bund-lehnt-atomare-wasserstoffstrategie-der-deutschen-eu-ratspraesidentschaft-ab-gruene-und-nachhaltige-wasserstoffwirtschaft-droht-im-ansatz-zu-scheitern/

On the 5th anniversary of the Paris Climate Agreement, this is an extremely dangerous venture as the current EU Council President. Incidentally, hydrogen will also be produced in Lingen - from RWE!

-

c) With an amendment to the Atomic Energy Act, the Federal Environment Ministry wants to further restrict the meager legal options for citizens. With this, the BMU is aggressively operating the business of the nuclear industry and the sloppily working nuclear authorities in the federal and state levels. Here is a PM from BUND and Greenpeace:

https://www.presseportal.de/pm/7666/4785124

So there is a lot to be done. In spite of everything, we don't bury our heads in the sand, but go out into the streets - off to Lingen!

reaktorpleite.de

Nuclear power plants are indispensable for the nuclear industry and for the military. Without 'civil' nuclear reactors, for example, there would be no cheap plutonium for atomic bombs, no depleted uranium for uranium ammunition and not enough electricity for great new energy weapons. Not to mention the radionuclide batteries for the space adventures of our Star Wars heroes and all the other so-called "future projects" of the military. We finance all of this with our electricity bill.

Everyone is singing and happy: Money, Money, Money, always funny ...

Lingen fuel assembly plant

Operation since 1979

The Lingen fuel assembly plant went into operation in January 1979. According to BASE, 144 reportable events were counted up to June 2019.

The plant in Lingen is owned by Advanced Nuclear Fuels GmbH, which under a different name initially belonged to 100% Siemens, since 2001 100% of AREVA NP, in which AREVA holds two thirds and Siemens a third. By the way, from 2006 to 2008 the fuel element works came under the direction of the former Executive Vice President Dr. Ralf Güldner, the current President of the German Atomic Forum (DAtF), the atomic lobby organization ...

Doel (Belgium)

Extension of the service life of the two old reactors until 2025

The Doel site is in northern Belgium, near the Dutch border. The nuclear power plant is 25 km from Antwerp, 140 km from Aachen and 192 km from Cologne.

Along with Tihange, Doel is one of two nuclear power plants operated by Electrabel in Belgium; The owner is the Indivision Doel. The two older reactors Doel-1 and Doel-2 with a capacity of 454 MW each went into operation in 1974/1975, Doel-3 with 1.056 and Doel-4 with 1.090 MW have been running since 1982 and 1985, respectively. 1, -2 and -4 was a consortium of ACEC, COCKERILL and Westinghouse, of Doel-3 from Framatome (today AREVA), ACEC and COCKERILL.

In the EU stress test, the Doel nuclear power plant performed particularly poorly due to the lack of earthquake safety in reactors 1 and 2 ...

The nuclear lobby

The atomic lobby is made up of organizations, corporations and people from politics, business, research and the media who support and promote the use of atomic energy for political and economic reasons and / or often also out of personal convictions. These are networked nationally or internationally and pursue the goal of extending the service life of nuclear power plants, promoting the construction of new nuclear power plants and delaying and reversing the nuclear phase-out that has been decided in some countries. In order to achieve this goal, the atomic lobby tries systematically with the help of standardized argumentation to influence and manipulate politics and the public in its own way.

The term atomic lobby is widely used in the public and media without a clear definition or conception for it. In Wikipedia, the manifestations and methods of lobbying are dealt with in general, but a separate chapter on the nuclear lobby has not yet been published. On the internet and in the media it was pointed out and proven with examples that various pages in Wikipedia were manipulated by the atomic lobby ...

Fuel assembly plant

A fuel element factory is a nuclear facility for the production of fuel elements for nuclear power plants. The fuel elements have different composition and shape depending on the type of reactor in which they are used: They usually contain uranium as nuclear fuel in oxidic form (e.g. in light and heavy water reactors) or in metallic form (Magnox reactors). However, some fuel elements also contain thorium (e.g. in high-temperature reactors) or uranium-plutonium mixed oxide (see also MOX) as fissile material. The latter is used in breeder reactors as well as in light water reactors ...

Military-industrial complex

The term military-industrial complex (MIK) is used in socio-critical analyzes to describe the close cooperation and mutual relationships between politicians, representatives of the military and representatives of the armaments industry.

The concept of a military-industrial complex was coined in 1956 by the American sociologist Charles Wright Mills under the title The Power Elite (German: "The American Elite: Society and Power in the United States"). Mills shows the close connections between the military, business and political elites in America after the Second World War. The 9th chapter "The Military Ascendancy" is particularly relevant. Mills does not use the term “military-industrial complex”. He speaks of the "military establishment". Mills saw it as a serious threat to the democratic state structure and a risk for military clashes between the United States and the Soviet Union. In criticizing the military's influence on science and research, Mills cites as an example that Eisenhower, as ex-general, was director of the University of Columbia. Eisenhower, of all people, later took up Mills' criticism and coined the term military-industrial complex:

The term gained popularity through the US President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who in his farewell speech on January 17, 1961 expressly warned against the entanglements and influences of the military-industrial complex in the USA. Eisenhower, who himself had once been Chief of Staff of the Army, like Mills saw the military-industrial complex as a danger to democratic institutions and democracy ...

The nuclear chain

Nuclear power bomb risk

The nuclear chain makes it possible

On August 6, 1945, a single bomb was enough to level the Japanese city of Hiroshima to the ground. In the decades that followed, the world stood on a nuclear abyss several times; The nuclear arsenal comprised 65.000 warheads at the height of the Cold War. Today there are still 16.300 - enough to blow up the earth several times. Several thousand nuclear weapons can be deployed within a few minutes.

What does this have to do with the civil use of nuclear power? Very much. Because all the links in the nuclear chain - be it uranium mining, nuclear power plants, research reactors, facilities for enrichment or reprocessing - have made a decisive contribution to the fact that today very many states are technically capable of developing nuclear weapons within a short period of time - some have already done so - open or covered. The so-called peaceful use of nuclear power ensures the widespread use of weapons-grade materials, and military nuclear programs can easily be concealed under their guise. The civil and military uses of nuclear power cannot be separated. They are two sides of the same coin: playing with atomic fire.
