Feb. 12, 2020 at FUgE - Nuclear waste transports from Gronau via Hamm to Russia

The co-chairman Vladimir Slivyak of Ecodefense in Russia informs in Hamm!

On Wednesday, February 12th, 2020 at 20 p.m.

Forum for the Environment and Just Development

Eintritt der ist frei.

Since autumn 2019, nuclear waste has been regularly transported from the uranium enrichment plant (UAA) in Gronau via Hamm to Russia. These uranium trains transport around 600 t of radioactive and highly toxic uranium hexafluoride (UF6), which is to remain as nuclear waste in Russia at the Novouralsk nuclear facility near Yekaterinburg.

The nuclear waste is parked on the Hammer marshalling yard for several hours. In the event of an accident or a leak in the container, the liquid UF6 becomes gaseous and spreads like a mist in the surrounding area!

We criticize the fact that the so-called “re-enrichment” of the alleged “valuable material” is just a cloak so that Urenco in Germany can save the very expensive, harmless disposal of the depleted uranium.

Vladimir Slivyak is co-chairman of the Russian environmental organization Ecodefense and as such has been active against nuclear and coal policy in Russia for many years. Ecodefense is one of the most recognized environmental organizations in Russia and is therefore officially branded by the Russian government as a "foreign agent".

Vladimir has been working with us since 2005 against the irresponsible uranium waste exports from Gronau to Russia, for which Urenco and its German shareholders RWE and EON are responsible - with the first success in 2009, now against the new edition of the same.

On January 23, 2020, he and the energy expert from Greenpeace Russia, Rashid Alimov, went to the Federal Environment Ministry to hand over 70 protest signatures from Russia against uranium waste exports.

Feb. 10, 2020 - Demonstration against the transport of nuclear waste in Münster

On Monday, February 10th, we want to do a uranium waste demo through the station district in Münster in the evening at 18 p.m. after a kick-off at the main train station / Berliner Platz.

We will not give up in 2020 either, so that irresponsible uranium waste exports to Russia are (again) a thing of the past and the uranium factories in Gronau and Lingen are finally shut down instead of supplying nuclear power plants with fuel.
