Dear friends,
18 vigils in two days plus a rappelling action near Münster, which stopped the uranium train for two hours yesterday - there has not been so much protest against the irresponsible uranium transports from / to the UAA Gronau and for the urgently needed shutdown of the UAA for a long time. And it goes on - on both sides:
While in Russia Ecodefense, Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth have announced a nationwide protest day for Sunday (Dec. 15, 2019), the Gronau Urenco boss Ohnemus was quoted today in the WDR that next year they will be carrying another 10 uranium garbage trains with a total of 6000 tons of uranium waste for Russia want to continue. We are already announcing protests against this!
More on this below, but now two more important messages and an appeal for donations.
1. 25 years of the Sunday walk in Ahaus, Dec.
This Sunday, the Sunday walk at the Ahaus interim storage facility will be 25 years old - that's why there will be an anniversary Sunday walk at the interim storage facility at 14 p.m. The country road will be flagged with protest flags again, because in 2020 there is a threat of new nuclear waste shipments. On Sunday we also want to celebrate the anniversary a little, because political resistance always needs staying power.
2. Lingen trials, 19./20. Dec
On Thursday / Friday 19./20. Dec. in Lingen at 10 a.m. in front of the local court there are two more trials against two activists. Both are accused of "resistance". It is about a symbolic action on the town hall canopy during an anti-nuclear demonstration in January after a fire had burned in the nuclear part of the fuel element factory. After damage to property was ruled out as an allegation, the two were appended with "resistance".
The two activists look forward to solidarity support.
Another procedure is also pending in Lingen because a wheelchair user is said to have "resisted" the same demonstration. The oh-so-overloaded judiciary apparently always finds time for such highlight processes.
3. Call for donations

4. Uranium transport - a lot of protest
Now back to the uranium transport: Urenco's plan to postpone the uranium train by 24 hours and then drive it across the country without protest did not work. On the one hand there were five spontaneous vigils yesterday, many of them were on the railway line for the second time, Ennepetal near Hagen was new!
On the other hand, as reported, there was a new abseiling action between MS-Häger and the MS-Kinderhaus, which delayed the atomic train for two hours, despite intensive helicopter escort. The activist had roped off the A1 bridge, and the uranium train was then held back in the train stations in Burgsteinfurt, then in Altenberge. There were no arrests, the climbing equipment was not confiscated, the climber is doing well. Of course, personal details were found. The police climbing team from Cologne had already been brought to the Münsterland in advance.
Then the uranium train crawled with a helicopter through Münster at around 14.15 p.m. and then quickly on to Hamm, where a helicopter was also maneuvered in the afternoon. The local newspaper from Lünen reports that yesterday evening the train apparently took the "northern route" through Lünen towards Oberhausen-Duisburg, also by helicopter ...
The uranium is now in Amsterdam and will be loaded onto the 'Mikhail Dudin', which is due to leave tomorrow at 18 p.m. - still 24 hours late.
As I said, the day of action in Russia will take place on Sunday. The uranium ship is expected to arrive in St. Petersburg next Tuesday.
A first conclusion: Due to the many protests not only in the Münsterland, but far beyond, uranium waste export is slowly becoming an international political issue. A very big thank you to the many active people in all the places - this is great support and encouragement, especially for the environmental movement in Russia. We are also really happy about the many new comrades-in-arms that we have met in the last few weeks!
If there are good ideas on how we can expand the level we have now reached, we look forward to all suggestions as well as support and networking offers. It would be important e.g. B. to address friends or other groups in the cities along the railway lines, so that even more people are sensitized and there will be protests in even more places next time.
And then in the new year we will certainly set a new, clear protest signal with fresh power, if Urenco, RWE and EON really just want to continue with these blatant uranium waste exports!

Dear friends,
a long day of action with 13 different protest locations from Gronau through the Münsterland via Hamm and Mönchengladbach to Amsterdam comes to an end - and the uranium train is still on the premises of the UAA Gronau !!
This morning there were already a lot of police in the Münsterland on the route, then it suddenly became quiet. But there was a lot going on at the vigils until late in the evening - that made an impression. Thank you very much to everyone who showed that the uranium waste export from Gronau to Russia can no longer go so easily. Urenco showed nerves for the first time today, we will build on that!
In any case, the protests in Russia make a great impression and encourage protests there against uranium waste exports, which is effective for a few thousand kilometers!

Of course, we have to expect that Urenco will try early tomorrow (Tuesday) to send the uranium waste on its way. It may also be that the train route from Gronau to Münster runs as usual and then the shorter route via Greven-Emsdetten-Rheine-Salzbergen-Schüttorf-Bad Bentheim-Oldenzaal-Hengelo-Almelo-Deventer-Amersfoort to Amsterdam is used. Unfortunately, the Ruhr area also remains in the running. In any case, Mikhail Dudin is still in Amsterdam and is supposed to change her position in the harbor again on Wednesday night. What that means - we'll see it tomorrow.

Tomorrow, Monday, December 9th, protests will take place in twelve cities as part of a supraregional day of action against the expected departure of a new uranium waste transport with 600 t of depleted uranium hexafluoride (UF6) from the uranium enrichment plant in Gronau, Westphalia, to the Novouralsk nuclear facility in Russia. The protests are not only taking place in Münsterland, but also for the first time in the Ruhr area, the Lower Rhine and Amsterdam, where the radioactive cargo is to be loaded onto the Mikhail Dudin in the America Harbor on Wednesday, December 11, for the onward journey to St. Petersburg. During the last transport in mid-November, opponents of nuclear power stopped the uranium train near Burgsteinfurt in the Münsterland region with a rappelling action for more than seven hours.
New protests are also planned in Russia for the arrival of the nuclear ship in St. Petersburg. Around 53 people have already signed an online petition from Greenpeace Russia there.
Anti-nuclear power initiatives and environmental associations in Germany and Russia are calling for the operator of the Gronau uranium enrichment plant, the Urenco Group, as well as the German Urenco shareholders RWE and EON and the federal government to stop uranium waste exports immediately. Federal Environment Minister Svenja Schulze announced on Thursday that she wanted to restrict the export of fuel elements. This planned ban must be extended to all types of uranium exports.

Route of uranium transport from Gronau to Amsterdam
The uranium train will travel from Gronau via Burgsteinfurt and Münster to the freight yard in Hamm, where it will maneuver and "park" for several hours. Two routes are possible in the further course:
Northern route: From Hamm via Lünen-Recklinghausen-Herten-Gelsenkirchen Buer-Gladbeck-Bottrop-Oberhausen to Duisburg-Rheinhausen and Krefeld.
South route: From Hamm via Unna-Hagen-Ennepetal-Wuppertal-Düsseldorf to Mönchengladbach.
