Critical studies on nuclear energy and especially on the concept of high-temperature pebble bed reactors have existed from the very beginning. However, not all studies made it to the public, others were discredited...

2015 - INWORKS study - leukemia even with the slightest radiation

Study on workers in nuclear power plants shows the carcinogenic effects of low radiation doses.
There is no harmless dose: even the slightest exposure to ionizing radiation is sufficient to increase the risk of leukemia and lymphoma in the long term. This is confirmed by the largest study to date on this topic on more than 300.000 workers in nuclear power plants. Contrary to popular belief, there is no lower limit and a sustained low dose is just as carcinogenic as a single higher acute exposure, as the researchers report in the specialist journal "Lancet Hematology".

2013 - Radiation-induced genetic effects after Chernobyl and near nuclear facilities

Study on "Low Dose Radiation" by the Munich Helmholtz Center from 2013

Conclusion: “Low dose radiation” increases the number of stillbirths and malformations as well as the secondary sex ratio essentially linearly

The results help to refute the prevailing opinion that radiation-induced genetic effects in humans have yet to be proven.

2011 - Epidemiological abnormalities around nuclear power plants: Synoptic analysis

By Alfred Körblein

Since the results of the KiKK study were published 3 years ago, two further epidemiological studies have been published, one on malformations in newborns around nuclear power plants and one on the gender ratio at birth around Bavarian nuclear power plants. Both studies confirm the distance dependency found in the KiKK study, even if not all individual findings are statistically significant due to the small number of cases. A joint analysis of the three data sets with a non-linear distance model (Rayleigh distribution) results in a highly significant distance dependency of the risk with a maximum of the effect between 3 and 5 kilometers.

2008 - Inherent incidents and radioactivity charges on the HTR line!

From Dr. Rainer Moormann
A new study by the scientist Rainer Moormann on the operation of the thorium high-temperature reactor (THTR) AVR in Jülich, which was shut down in 1988, not only calls into question the entire previous official safety architecture of this reactor line, but also shakes the statements of the international nuclear community about the advantages of the new generation IV reactors in their foundations.

2007 - The KiKK study

Epidemiological study of childhood cancer in the vicinity of nuclear power plants

Beginning in 2003, an epidemiological case-control study was carried out at the German Children's Cancer Registry (DKKR) to investigate whether cancer is more common in children under 5 years of age in the immediate vicinity of nuclear power plants than in a greater distance ...

1988 - The "Benecke report"

to THTR Hamm and AVR Jülich

In 1988 Professor Jochen Benecke prepared a 261-page report on behalf of the Elektrowatt engineering company for the Minister of Economics, Medium-Sized Enterprises and Technology in North Rhine-Westphalia, which was kept secret for more than twenty years due to its highly explosive content: "Criticism of the safety devices and safety concepts of the THTR 300 in Hamm and the Jülich experimental reactor (AVR)".
Benecke and his colleagues involved (Peter Breitenlohner, Dieter Maison, Michael Reimann, Erhard Seiler) attested that both the AVR and the THTR were prone to Chernobyl-like explosions in water ingress accidents. Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) and AVR have not submitted any documents to the AVR expert group (2014) that refute Benecke's assessment, as the expert group expressly stated.

1988 - Safety, proliferation problems and special accident risks at the HTR

June 1988 - Excerpts from the report by Lothar Hahn -

Chapter 8.) Proliferation problems with the HTR line

Chapter 6.) Safety problems and accident risks of the HTR module and other high temperature reactors

In terms of safety, the HTR, especially the small high-temperature reactors HTR-Modul and HTR-100, are said to be miracles. Interested parties make claims that do not stand up to scrutiny. Propaganda campaigns dominate the security debate in public, the necessary differentiated consideration has so far been omitted.

1986 - Fundamental security problems

in the high-temperature reactor and particular deficits in the THTR-300

June 1986 - Lothar Hahn

On the alleged "inherent" safety of the HTR Since the beginning of high-temperature reactor development, interested parties have tried to suggest to the public that the HTR is "inherently" safe. This cleverly engineered advertising strategy has undoubtedly had some success, because it has led to unprecedented disinformation, even in the atomic energy debate. Like hardly any other assertion by the nuclear industry, it is based on scientifically untenable assumptions and incorrect conclusions.

For work on 'THTR circular', 'reaktorpleite.de' and 'Map of the nuclear world' we need up-to-date information, energetic, fresh comrades-in-arms under 100 (;-) and donations. If you can help, please send a message to: info@reaktorpleite.de

Donation appeal

- The THTR circular is published by the 'BI Environmental Protection Hamm' and is financed by donations.

- The THTR circular has meanwhile become a much-noticed information medium. However, there are ongoing costs due to the expansion of the website and the printing of additional information sheets.

- The THTR circular researches and reports in detail. In order for us to be able to do that, we depend on donations. We are happy about every donation!
