Tax exemption for bankrupt reactor?

After the TAZ report documented in the last circular about a partial tax exemption for the THTR operating company HKG up to 2009, the Hamm citizens' initiative environmental protection put several questions to the NRW state government. In addition to the question of the previous amount of tax payments and tax exemptions, we expressed our astonishment that the Brussels EU Commission allowed itself to consider a reactor line that had failed through and through 13 years after the THTR was shut down as "significant for the nuclear industry "to represent. - And with that, generous tax gifts for the next seven years!

It would be really very interesting to find out whether the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia has agreed to the EU Commission's point of view or has opposed a different position. The answer was still pending at the time of going to press.

In the meantime, the TAZ-Ruhr took up the topic on June 27th and asked: "The Ministry of Finance does not want to make any statements about HKG's tax payments. 'Tax secrecy prevents us from doing this.' Hammer BI assumes, however, that HKG has been living on state grants since it was closed in 6. " The TAZ writes the following about the costs of decommissioning the nuclear reactors: 'The demolition of the Jülich nuclear test reactor could be more than twice as expensive as assumed. Instead of the original 1989 million euros, the Federal Audit Office is now assuming costs of almost 190 million euros. Should the disposal of the Hammer Reactor also become more expensive than planned, HKG will not be affected. The country is responsible for 500 percent of the closure. "

THTR variant in South Africa?

TopTo the top of the page - reaktorpleite.de -

Apparently completely unimpressed by the failure of the HTR technology, the nuclear industry is apparently trying to build a special variant of the THTR, the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) in South Africa.

Corresponding information has been brought to us from various sides. We have provided the inquiring initiatives with information material and are observing further developments with interest.

The WISE information service "Nuclear Monitor" from Amsterdam, in its No. 570 on June 28, 6, together with South African partner organizations formulated an appeal for protest that many organizations and groups can sign. When 2002 government and non-government representatives come to the great world environment summit Rio + 26 in Johannisburg from August 4 to September 65.000, it should be made accessible to the public in a suitable manner.

Gronau: From September 1st (anti-war day) actions

TopTo the top of the page - reaktorpleite.de -

The uranium conference of the nationwide anti-nuclear power movement decided at its meeting in Münster that 14-day, decentralized uranium action days should begin on Anti-War Day in Gronau with a central rally.

At the rally, at which the peace movement will also be involved, the problem of depleted uranium, which has already been repeatedly used in the military (Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan), is to be addressed. The Gronau initiative succeeded in involving several peace groups for the preparatory meeting.

At a so-called application conference on May 3rd in the Düsseldorf Ministry of Economics, the focus was on the environmental impact assessment of the UAA expansion process. The public representatives were invited. The recognized environmental associations in North Rhine-Westphalia (BUND, LNU, NABU) had previously emphasized their rejection of the expansion of the UAA in a joint statement.

New Castor scandal!

TopTo the top of the page - reaktorpleite.de -

"The repair concept for leaky castor containers was checked with an unsuitable computer program. A control calculation recently carried out with a modern program revealed the error.

The operator of the Gorleben and Ahaus nuclear waste interim storage facilities, the Gesellschaft für Nuklearservice mbH (GNS), has admitted this. According to a communication from the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS), the competent licensing authority, the GNS reported the errors in earlier calculations at the end of April. (...) Overnight, an important safety case simply vanished into thin air. (...)

In the opinion of Greenpeace, with the overturning of the repair concept, an essential permit requirement for the storage of Castor containers is no longer met. The organization has therefore applied to the supervisory authorities in Hanover and Düsseldorf to impose a storage stop as an immediate measure. (...) In the approval procedures for atomic containers, safety proofs by computer simulation have almost become the standard because the container manufacturers want to save the costs of carrying out test series. With the Castor types most frequently used at the moment, no drop tests, fire tests or immersion tests were carried out. "(From:" Junge Welt ", June 29, 6)

"In 2001, German nuclear power plants set a production record. As the German Atomic Forum announced on Monday in Berlin, the amount of electricity generated rose to an unprecedented level of 171,3 billion kilowatt hours." (from: "Junge Welt" from February 26, 2)

Donation appeal

- The THTR-Rundbrief is published by 'BI Umwelt Hamm e. V. ' issued and financed by donations.

- The THTR circular has meanwhile become a much-noticed information medium. However, there are ongoing costs due to the expansion of the website and the printing of additional information sheets.

- The THTR circular researches and reports in detail. In order for us to be able to do that, we depend on donations. We are happy about every donation!
